what does a black in your dreams mean

Leo, if you have kept a dream journal you might have more insight that I can provide. As with all dreams, they are personal and often do not resemble generalities that books can offer. Yet there is often a thread in dreams that books offer a good starting point. The key is, what does “black” mean to you? How do you feel about the color black? Does it mean “nothing” as in emptiness or does it mean death and fear. Maybe to you it means possibility? You also want to ask yourself; “what else was in that dream?” The other factors are very important to understanding what the symbols mean to you.

For me, the color black in a dream, would make me feel fearful or void of other color and light. Depending on what else was in the dream, maybe I am having a moment of feeling loss over something. For some the color might be transition, movement from white which has all the color to black which is void of color. A mental cleaning of the slate maybe?

If you grew up in a culture where black had a a huge significance, you could bet that you will also tag this meaning onto the color in your dreams. For example, if you grew up in South America, where black was worn for days after a death; you would have a strong affinity to this meaning in your dreams.

To help, here are some possible meanings:

Negativity, fear, anxiety, hatred, resentment, guilt, depression (no hope / faith), movement into darkness or supressing something, transformation, clean slate, new potential.

Again, these meanings might not be close at all, it depends on your cultural and experiential beliefs about black as a symbol. One more note, don’t forget that what I feel a dream means comes from what I have experienced, so I will always say at firt; “if it were my dream”. :)

Feel free to share the other parts of your dream, I’m sure there are tons of readers here how would love to help you with the meaning of black.

If anyone would like to post what else they know of the color black, please do so.

Namaste,

Kris

Kris, in the Indian culture, black is often associated with Krishna. In some of my meditations, he comes to me and surrounds me with a warm, luxurious, flowing black cloak of energy that swirls around both of us. It is wonderful.

The first time that I experienced this, I was frightened because in America where I live, black in often associated with doom and gloom. I discoverd the meaning of my meditation while listening to a very wise Indian lady tell of her experiences with Krishna. Then is when I learned the full significance of my meditation.

A pschic acquaintance has recently seen me as a little girl who became a Krishna devotee after he saved my life with a miracle. Don’t know if she is right with her information or not but the thought feels nice and comforting to me.
